When the words “action” and “Gerard Butler” are combined, an adrenaline-pumping hit is almost guaranteed. Butler has had his fair share of head-scratching jobs, from his most recent performance in Jean-François Richet’s suspenseful drama Plane to his stint fighting terrorists in the Has Fallen series and engaging aliens in Greenland. Butler is now focusing on the undercover agent action subgenre, and a brand-Kandahar trailer has just been shown that depicts Butler’s most recent conflict with adversaries abroad.

‘Kandahar’ trailer
The opening seconds of the video give a brief synopsis of the story, placing Butler’s covert CIA agent Tom Harris at the centre of a mission to eliminate the enemy’s “whole nuclear programme.” Moments before a devastating explosion destroys the target, a group of intelligence personnel cheer from the safety of their base as they see a serene desert landscape. As we learn that the agent’s and his interpreter’s cover has been blown, sending them on a perilous journey to an extraction point in Kandahar, not everyone is happy. The lads will travel 400 miles through hostile area on their perilous journey, dodging several gun-happy bounty hunters and a high price on their heads.
Kandahar is a reunion between Butler and director Ric Roman Waugh; after working together on the films Greenland and Angel Has Fallen, the two just can’t seem to stay away from one another. Both guys have plans to continue the Has Fallen series, with a fourth entry named Night Has Fallen and a Greenland: Migration follow-up due out in the future.
