No one is at all surprised that Netflix will produce a follow-up to the popular movie Extraction from 2020. Extraction, an action thriller that is based on the comic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman, is quite exciting (apart from the child fighting). With an estimated 90 million households reportedly having seen the film within a month of its release, it’s hardly surprising that it went on to have the largest premiere in Netflix’s history.
Obviously, like any good action hero, Rake lives on to fight another day. Extraction 2 hasn’t been given many official details as of yet, but the first film already had a sizable fan base that is eagerly anticipating the sequel. No pressure, correct? ‘Extraction 2’: Trailer
Netflix published a teaser trailer for Extraction 2 in September 2021 during their Tudum event and you can check it out above. Beginning with a review of Rake’s dying moments, the film demonstrates how he was shot and fell into a river. In a voiceover, Mahajan tells him, “Tyler, you drown not by falling into the river but by staying submerged in it.” And then, against all odds, we see Rake open his eyes and start swimming to the surface. While the two-minute commercial doesn’t provide any plot details, it does show that Tyler Rake, who was declared clinically dead before “fighting his way back,” did in fact survive the events of the previous movie. Rake defeats armed guards in a prison riot while his fist is on fire in another impressive fight scene shown in the trailer. Rake is shown firing a machine gun against an enemy helicopter from atop a railway in the trailer’s epilogue.
‘Extraction 2’: Plot
The Extraction 2 official storyline summary is as follows:
Rake, the Australian black operations mercenary who barely made it through the events of the first film, is back and assigned a new, dangerous mission: rescuing the wounded family of a brutal Georgian mobster from the jail where they are being imprisoned.
Given the amount of interest in Gaspar’s persona, it’s possible that the new narrative may touch on Rake and Gaspar’s time as teammates. Perhaps Rake is being followed by a former foe today? Even if it has previously been done a thousand times, there is still some possibility. We do know that there will be a single action scene in the movie. After speaking with the Russos, Collider Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub learned that there is a 14-minute oner. I haven’t pulled out the stopwatch, but that [time] looks quite accurate, said Joe Russo.
All things considered, it may be better for us to wait and see what Extraction 2 has in store for us. We are aware that there will be a lot riding on the sequel. And if the new film is even half as enjoyable as the first, it could well shoot to the top of Netflix’s rankings.
