‘Kandahar’: Release Date
On September 21, 2022, Open Road Films paid a staggering eight figures for the North American rights to Kandahar and scheduled the movie for a 2023 theatrical release. The production and distribution business later decided to release Kandahar over Memorial Weekend, which was scheduled for January 26, 2023. The action-packed movie will now have its theatrical debut on May 26, 2023.
‘Kandahar’: Plot
Tom Harris, a CIA covert agent, is stranded in Afghanistan’s dangerous interior. He must battle his way to an extraction site in Kandahar with his Afghan interpreter when an information leak reveals his name and objective, all the while dodging the elite special forces squad entrusted with tracking them down.

Former military intelligence officer Mitchell LaFortune’s spec script served as the basis for the plot of Kandahar. The movie, which is set amid the 2013 Snowden revelations, provides an original viewpoint on the happenings. The main characters of the film are an Afghan interpreter and an undercover CIA agent named Tom Harris who is on a risky assignment in Afghanistan. The movie chronicles how the two escape the elite special forces team tasked with finding them and get at an extraction site 400 miles away in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
‘Kandahar’: Cast
The initial casting news for the movie came in June 2020 with the declaration that Gerard Butler will both produce and feature in it. Tom Harris, the protagonist, will be portrayed by the seasoned actor. With his appearances in films like 300, Copshop, Den of Thieves, Geostorm, Plane, and the Has Fallen film trilogy, Butler has solidified his reputation as a skilled actor, particularly in the action genre. In Kandahar, Ric Roman Waugh, the director of Greenland and Angel Has Fallen, reteams with Butler.

Navid Negahban, an Iranian-American actor who lives in America, co-stars with Butler as Harris’s Afghan interpreter. He will appear beside Butler throughout the movie as the two try to flee the Afghan special forces together. Since Harris will be in charge of assisting Negahban in returning safely home.
