Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming political thriller. The Diplomat, featuring Keri Russell as the lead role of US Ambassador Kate Wyler. Deborah Cahn, who has worked on popular TV shows like Homeland and The West Wing, writes the series.
In the The Diplomat Trailer, Kate Wyler, who recently relocated to London, awkwardly meets with Great Britain’s Prime Minister. Kate feels uncomfortable working in Europe as she considers herself more suited to a crisis zone, such as Afghanistan. However, Kate soon finds herself facing a dangerous crisis, with someone luring a strike force into the Persian Gulf. Keri Russell’s spy story experience from The Americans makes her well-suited for her role in The Diplomat.

In The Diplomat, Kate’s personal life becomes intertwined with her professional challenges as she navigates her role as a US Ambassador in London while also dealing with her husband’s desire for attention and influence. Hal, played by Rufus Sewel, was once a US Ambassador himself and still wields power in political circles, despite no longer holding an official position. This creates a complex dynamic between the two, as Kate tries to balance her own ambitions with the demands of her marriage. Through this storyline, The Diplomat explores the complexities of long-term relationships in the context of high-stakes international diplomacy.
