According to a fresh report from Deadline, Blue Bloods will really return for a second season, dispelling earlier rumours that it had mysteriously disappeared from CBS’ list of renewed shows last month. Since its debut, the police procedural has been one of the network’s most popular primetime programmes. Nevertheless, after missing out on the network’s list of equally popular shows that were renewed last week, its future hung in the balance. Now we know there was a cause for the commission and the renewal only happened when the stars and producers of the programme consented to a minor concession.
In terms of ratings, Blue Bloods has continued to produce staggering results for CBS. It continues to be the most watched programme on the network on Fridays and is the third most watched broadcast drama with a massive 9.54 million viewers per episode. The number is increased to 11 million by live +35-day multi-platform viewing. Notwithstanding those numbers, it goes without saying that veteran series inevitably cost more money as they become older, and linear ratings also generally tend to fall. So, CBS had to ask producers for a concession in order to maintain things lucrative. According to Deadline, the cast and crew of the show had to consent to a 25% pay cut in order to ensure that Season 14 would be renewed.
According to CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach, “Blue Bloods has dominated Friday nights since its inception and remained a crucial anchor for CBS’ winning schedule.” The statement continues, “Under the direction of the brilliant Tom Selleck, and with the help of an amazing cast and creative team, audiences continue to appreciate the Reagans, their law enforcement family, and the dramatic narrative in the series. We are eagerly anticipating another terrific season at the Reagan family dinner table. Bob Hearts Abishola, NCIS: Hawai’i, So Help Me Todd, Young Sheldon, and CSI: Vegas are just a few of the already renewed shows that will all return for the 2023–2024 TV season.
Blue Bloods Will Welcome Back All of Its Original Cast Members
The Reagan family dinners will likely have a full table because no big cast members have been confirmed to be leaving the programme. As patriarch Frank Reagan, Tom Selleck will be back to make sure the family ties are strong. Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez, and Vanessa Ray are also making a comeback. The Reagan family, who are all connected to the NYPD, are the subjects of Blue Bloods, which covers their professional and private lives.
The programme is still among the top 10 on Paramount+ in terms of total minutes watched, and it is presently tied with NCIS: Los Angeles as the second-longest-running series at CBS.
Blue Bloods premieres new episodes on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. On Paramount+, you can watch the entire series both live and on demand. Below is a trailer for the programme:
