Johnny Depp has received the $1 million settlement money from Amber Heard, officially closing their Virginia defamation case. A source close to Depp has revealed that the actor, aged 60, intends to donate the funds to five charitable organizations of his choice.
Each charity will receive $200,000. The selected charities include Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and Amazonia Fund Alliance. Amber Heard’s representative has not yet responded to requests for comments. After appealing the verdict in June 2022, both parties decided to drop their appeals and reach a settlement, which was announced in December. Heard emphasized that the decision to settle was not a concession and expressed her determination to speak her truth.
Depp’s attorneys reiterated that the jury’s decision in his favor and the judgment remain intact, and the donation reinforces Heard’s acknowledgement of the legal system’s pursuit of justice. Depp recently attended the Cannes Film Festival, while Heard, who now resides in Spain, will be present at Italy’s Taormina Film Festival for the world premiere of her movie “In the Fire” in June.
