According to the actor’s death certificate, Lance Reddick suffered from heart illness. His immediate cause of death is listed as both atherosclerotic coronary artery disease and ischemic heart disease in the paper that TMZ obtained. But in a statement released on Thursday, Reddick’s attorney said that the finding “is not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.”
According to the American Heart Association, clogged heart arteries are the root cause of ischaemic heart disease. Less blood and oxygen reach the heart muscle when arteries are narrow. The accumulation of plaque (fatty substances) in the heart’s arteries, which may result in a heart attack, is commonly referred to as coronary heart disease.
When Yahoo Entertainment contacted a Reddick agent, James Hornstein, an attorney, released the following statement on behalf of Reddick:
I have represented Lance Reddick for many years and continue to represent his wife Stephanie. The coroner statement on the death certificate is not a result of an autopsy. No autopsy was performed on Lance. To my knowledge, no medical examination of Lance during his lifetime ever indicated such conditions.
Lance was the most physically fit person I’ve ever known. He exercised daily at his home gym, including extensive cardio work, and the availability of gym facilities was a contractual requirement for his work away from home. He ate as if a dietician was monitoring his every meal. The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle. On behalf of Stephanie Reddick, the death certificate information is not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.
The Wire and Oz actor Reddick passed away unexpectedly on March 17. The actor died of natural causes, the actor’s representative told Yahoo. Reddick, who plays Charon in the John Wick movie series, was recognised by Keanu Reeves and his co-stars at the movie’s premiere while on a press tour for John Wick: Chapter 4.
Last month, Reeves spoke about Reddick in an emotive manner, describing him as “a remarkable artist and a special person with grace and dignity.”
“He had this idea for the way that he wanted [his John Wick] character to speak — and just his enthusiasm and passion. And the way that he and I got to work and kind of speak the unspoken, that connection. It’s just really cool,” Reeves told People.
After his passing, Stephanie posted a message on Instagram saying “was taken from us far too soon.”
“Thank you for all your overwhelming love, support and beautiful stories shared on these platforms over the last day. I see your messages and can’t begin to express how grateful I am to have them,” Stephanie wrote. She married the actor in 2011 and they shared children Yvonne Nicole and Christopher.
Stephanie thanked the “thousands of Destiny players who played in special tribute to Lance,” referring to his pivotal role in the cult-favorite video game. “Lance loved you as much as he loved the game.”
