The thrilling new series’ premiere date was officially announced by Disney+ in conjunction with the TV ad that was shown on March 12. On May 24, 2023, American Born Chinese will have its debut.
‘American Born Chinese’: Plot
Jin Wang, a Chinese-American youngster who fights with his identity in a largely white American culture, is the subject of the novel American Born Chinese. As Jin learns to manage the complexity of his cultural heritage and the expectations of people around him, the show leads viewers on a journey of self-discovery. He is drawn into a conflict between Chinese mythology’s Gods when he meets Wei-Chen, a foreign exchange student.
The Monkey King is a figure who predominates among the Gods. The 16th-century book Journey to the West included the first appearance of this figure in Chinese mythology. There are other legends about this kung-fu expert known as the Monkey King, but the most popular one describes how the monkey king struggled to accept his appearance in particular. He starts to transform, taking on a more human form on the outside as well. He is finally persuaded by a buddy that he must embrace his original shape in order to solve his difficulties after becoming imprisoned in a cave in a mountain. The Monkey King is able to quickly escape his rocky prison once he returns to his regular size and shape.
‘American Born Chinese’: Cast
Ben Wang will portray Jin Wang, the main character. He gained notoriety most recently for his roles in the films Sex Appeal and Good Egg. In addition to creating and directing the short film Walter and France that same year, he made his acting debut in the television series MacGuyver in 2021. Yann Yann Yeo and Chin Han respectively portray Jin’s parents, Simon and Christine. Yeo, a Malaysian actress, is most well-known for the film Wet Season. The most recent roles that Chin Han played were Lau in The Dark Knight and Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat.
Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu, who previously starred with Yeoh in Everything Everywhere All At Once, have returned. Before quitting acting, Quan was a kid actress. Who appeared in films like The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. He attributes his return to the spotlight and to major parts to the success of the 2019 Academy Awards presentation of the Korean film Parasite. Directed by Bong Joon-ho. Now that she has won an Academy Award for her performance in Everything Everywhere at Once. Ke Huy Quan will portray Freddy Wong in the Disney+ series.
